Otomycosis is a fungal ear infection , a superficial mycotic infection of the outer ear canal. It is more common in the tropical countries. The infection may be either subacute or acute and is characterized by malodorous discharge, inflammation, pruritus, scaling, and severe discomfort. Suppuration can occur due to superimposed bacterial infection commonly due to pseudomonas species and proteus species. The mycosis results in inflammation, superficial epithelialexfoliation, masses of debris containing hyphae, suppuration, and pain.

Causes and  Factors of Otomycosis or Ear Fungus

The Common Causes of Otomycosis or Ear Fungus Are:
  • Contaminated water.
  • Prolonged use of topical antibacterial agents.

  1. Vinegar and Alcohol Solution : Combine equal amounts of vinegar and alcohol to create a solution to treat the ear fungal infection and alleviate symptoms. The vinegar works as an antifungal stimulant in treating and preventing further growth. The alcohol will quickly dry the area as well as work as a disinfectant.
  2. Dry Heat : We know that fungi thrive in moist areas; therefore, it is crucial to ensure the ear and ear canal is dry at all times. To dry, use a hair dryer instead of cotton swabs, as further damage to the ear may occur and promote fungal infections.
  3. Cleaning : Firstly, a doctor usually needs to clean the ear. They may use a rinse or a suction tool to do this. Cleaning will get rid of debris or a buildup of material and allow the medication to work better.
